The Black Phone 2 (2025): Why Did They Even Bother?

By: Edward Davidson

Look, the first movie was a masterpiece of atmospheric dread, but this sequel just proves they should've left a good thing alone. They ditch the terrifying basement vibe immediately for a super generic, over-explained cop show following grown-up Finney Shaw. Hard pass.

They tried way too hard to expand the "lore," which is always a red flag. Instead of the simple, creepy Grabber, we get some messy plot with a copycat killer who has none of Ethan Hawke's scary energy. The returning kid ghosts? Total fan service checklist item. All they do is show up for loud, cheap jump scares instead of adding any real tragic punch.

Basically, The Black Phone 2 takes a smart, minimalist movie and makes it bigger, louder, and totally stupid. Just hang up already.

Him (2025): Absolutely Unhinged, Must-See Horror!

By: Taylor Forbes

Okay, so I went to see Him because Jordan Peele’s name was on it, and the trailer looked absolutely bonkers. Football meets cult horror? Sign me up! This movie is a wild, beautiful, bloody trip that now lives rent-free in my head.

It slams off the line with a crazy, surreal look and Marlon Wayans giving a career-best, genuinely terrifying performance as the aging QB "GOAT." The visual vibe is sick—super moody, loaded with unsettling symbolism, and the X-ray body horror scenes are legitimately wince-inducing. This movie has style for days.

Yeah, the plot is messy, but who cares? It leans into psychological horror, blending reality and hallucination so well you're constantly asking, "Wait, what just happened?"

SCORE: 8/10
